1. Download and install the SMS plugin for e-commerce

The plugin is free. Start by adding it to your cart, then fill out the form and click Order. Check your email; the download link for the plugin will be in the received message. Save the compressed file to your disk. No need to unpack it.

In the next step, go to the WordPress dashboard and select the Plugins tab. Click Add New, then Upload Plugin to the server. Upload the plugin you downloaded a moment ago. Click Install, and when the installer finishes its work, activate the plugin by clicking Activate Plugin. Done! Now proceed to configure SMS delivery with WooCommerce.

2. Configure the WooCommerce SMS Plugin

Go to the list of installed plugins and search for SMSAPI WooCommerce. Click Settings to connect the SMS and e-commerce systems.

If you don’t have an account with SMSAPI yet, select the Registration button. I recommend the Do It Yourself series for those embarking on the SMS communication adventure. It’s a comprehensive guide from scratch to the first SMS message to customers.

Click Connect with your SMSAPI account. The system will request your identifier (email address) and service selection (ssl.smsapi.com). Then, log in to the SMSAPI client panel and confirm the request to grant access to your account. That’s it! Now, you need to set the conditions for sending SMS.

For those interested: if you want to verify the correct functioning of the service and that the SMS API connection was successful, go to the API Tokens (OAuth) tab in the SMSAPI client panel. There, you will find a list of all active integrations.

Send SMS notifications with the company name instead of an SMS number

Select your preferred SMS sender field on the main integration screen (SMSAPI Account). All your messages will be labelled with the chosen name, such as your company or brand name. You manage these fields in the SMSAPI client panel. There, you can add new ones if you don’t have any yet. The service is entirely free, but there might be some local restrictions – contact your SMSAPI consultant for more information.

Collecting consents for SMS marketing

If you want to send SMS notifications, you can skip this step. But if you’d like to communicate offers using automated SMS campaigns, read on.

Below, you will also find three options regarding SMS marketing. You can choose whether you want to collect consents for processing data for sending SMS offers. Check Enable user consent for SMS marketing to conduct marketing following GDPR rules. Then, you can customize the label content (consent content) and the checkbox position.
